3D Scanning
Capture real world parts and objects
3D scanning uses specialised equipment to capture the exact shape, size, and surface geometry of a physical object and convert it into a digital 3D model. This model can then be used to reproduce the part, modify it, integrate it into a larger design, or simply archive it for future reference. It's the fastest and most accurate way to go from a physical object to a usable digital file — no manual measuring, no guesswork.

GSL 3D Printing and Services offers professional 3D scanning to capture accurate digital models of parts, components, and objects — whether you need to reverse-engineer a discontinued part, document an existing object, or kick off a custom design project we have the skills to help solve the challenges in your industry.
Lately we have had a few customers come to us with broken parts that are obsolete or have long lead times. We have solved their problems by getting a 3D scan then editing it in our software to fix any irregularities or broken pieces followed by 3D printing it to replace the original broken part. This is particularly useful for discontinued parts that have broken but are critical to keep your equipment running rather than spending thousands on new equipment.
Common Uses
-
Reverse engineering – Recreate obsolete, damaged, or unavailable parts (e.g. machinery components, agricultural equipment, custom fittings)
-
Replacement parts – Scan a worn or broken part to produce an exact-fit replacement
-
Custom fit & function – Capture irregular or organic shapes that are difficult to measure by hand
-
Product development – Use an existing object as the starting point for a new design or modification
-
Quality control – Compare a manufactured part against its original design
-
Documentation & archiving – Preserve a digital record of tools, fixtures, or equipment

This process and technology is a game changer for keeping your equipment running longer and reducing your capital expenditure. Although it can be very challenging for us depending on the part it is one of our favourite things to do for our customers.
